Exceptional regional university. The staff and faculty generally seem to care a great deal about the opportunities for the students to learn and grow academically and personally. The campus is the perfect setting for any nature lovers, with miles of running/biking trails and canoe/kayak options right on campus.

I am disgusted with how West Florida University treated my wife during her enrollment process. It's been an endless cycle of miscommunications, missed deadlines, and a complete lack of support from their staff.

First, there was a delay in getting her transcripts sent over, through no fault of her own, which caused her to miss the initial application deadline. Okay, understandable, these things happen. But when she reapplied for the next term, she submitted everything on time except for one document a day late.

Instead of showing even a shred of accommodation or humanity, this university completely shut the door in her face without any flexibility. She has been unable to get any help from an enrollment counselor or anyone else on their staff. They don't care about admitting students or understanding individual situations.

My wife is just trying to further her education and better herself by pursuing a master's degree. But rather than assisting her in that goal, West Florida has put up nothing but roadblocks, indifference, and rigid bureaucracy at every turn. It's infuriating!

With how difficult they have made this process and how little they seem to value prospective students, I would strongly caution anyone against attending West Florida University. There are plenty of other schools out there that will support you instead of treating you like a number. Don't make the mistake we did - go somewhere else that will appreciate your pursuit of higher education.

Trying to get a financial hold off of your account to register for classes is extremely difficult for no reason. Even when the balance is paid in full.

I graduated and you send an email saying “here is your free courtesy DIGITAL copy of your diploma, but you’ll need to pay for a paper diploma.” Seriously? Why would you say it was a “courtesy” and it was “free” when all my hard work and MONEY paid for my education (hence a paper copy of my diploma)? But you can’t even give me a paper diploma I EARNED? That’s like me saying “UWF I am going to give you a free, courtesy tuition payment for the classes I chose to take.” Or even when you check out at a store and you ask for the receipt they say “you’ll need to pay me for the receipt.” Geese UWF! GREED!

What a ridiculous, disgraceful, shameful thing you did to your graduates (me). You should be ashamed UWF. You act poor and steal any penny you can from students.

UWF was an okay place to learn. I wasn’t impressed with it significantly. I liked Pensacola State College a whole lot better and I graduated from PSC too.

The campus itself is decent and classes are adequate. My only issues are that the university is money hungry and with the inadequate/poorly planned parking spaces. UWF will nickel and dime you everywhere they can. Most of the professors are awesome, but some of the other staff need to be better. While of course everyone should be compensated for working, the primary mission of a university should be to educate the next generation of intellects. It should not be to nickel and dime students in a struggling economy. Imagine if the person who could discover the cure for cancer, or bring humans to Mars, was never able to begin their journey because their money was squeezed out of them at the door.

Overall, UWF has a good facility that offers many great classes with experienced professors. However, some topics are not done particularly well here. If you’re looking to learn video production or video editing then I would probably look for another school with more knowledgeable and experienced professors. The film classes that I took in 2023 (film production 1, 2) are more of an amateur film appreciation club here rather than an educational or valuable video production class. The professor I had did not have any experience with modern editing software (Final Cut Pro, davinci, premiere, or blender) but rather only had experience with technology from the 1980’s and 90’s when film had to be physically cut and taped together. Almost all learning in this class was also done through YouTube videos which was annoying considering how much I payed to take the classes. Other than these classes, I’ve generally enjoyed attending here and would recommend anyone considering this school to just do some due diligence on the quality of the education you will receive for your particular major.
