It's a great college, for the most part.

On the academic side of things, it's pretty solid! Most of the teachers work hard and care about their students. I'd complain about the few that make a student's life hell, but every school has those. The classes I've taken so far have been educational and I've learned quite a lot.

The support services open to students are fantastic from my experience. Every faculty member I've interacted with has always has always wanted the best for the student and worked hard to help them in whatever situation they find themselves in.

The outdoor participation here is unmatched! Personally, a big part of choosing my college was for the skiing, and you won't be disappointed for any other outdoor activities either. You're only about 20-30 minutes from Bridger Bowl, and if that's not your cup of tea, you can drive about 1 hour to Big Sky. When it warms up, you've got rafting, hiking, climbing, camping, just about anything! Plus, the outdoor rec center on campus has pretty decent rental prices.

The food is mediocre. You'll likely start out enjoying what's offered at Miller or Rendezvous Dining Hall, but by the end of my first semester, my taste buds were dying of boredom. They try their best to change up the selection on a weekly basis, but even that gets old. At the end of the day, it's not any different from most universities.

The parking is a joke. As you'll see from most of these reviews, MSU is in need of a serious overhaul to their parking services. The overcharging and overselling of parking passes is a serious problem. It is ridiculous to see two lots, side-by-side, that both cost the same, but with an extremely disproportionate number of cars in one versus the other. Most lots located near the residence hall's are always packed and you'll be lucky to find a spot during the weekdays. It's clear MSU oversells their passes, despite claiming they don't, and you better be careful about parking violations because you'll rack up enough tickets to easily buy two passes.

Overall, it's a pretty good college. I didn't go over every part of college life here, but I'd encourage you to visit if you're already reading the reviews.

Be aware of the financial department they are misleading on information not sure if they really now what they are doing. They will tell you one thing then they next week it's its different story. Do all of you reach before considering your options.

Beautiful campus. Modern and well taken care of. If you are not a student, there is still lots to see. The campus is covered in sculptures, artworks, historical signs and statues. Wonderful place to spend the day exploring.

Professors are hit and miss. counselling services are good. Buildings are in dire need of renovation. Living facilities are sub-par, with newer buildings being fine but older buildings being unsanitary (especially bathrooms). Dining halls offer little variety with everything tasting the same and occasionally being under-cooked. You can always tell when visitors are coming because that is when the dining halls put in actual effort. My biggest issue is that 70% of the faculty are vastly pretentious and rude; acting curt and caustic and treating most students like an inconvenience. Its sad because , to most, it overshadows the 30% of caring/kind faculty who do put in effort and time for students.

(Some time later):
Montana State University : For two years in a row, I've been one of the very first students to sign up for housing arrangements as soon as they are available. For two years in a row, I've set my preferences. I've looked the registration desk clerk in the eyed and said "anything besides Johnstone would be fine.". I get my preferences done verbally, on paper, and on the housing website. For two years in a row, i get an email saying I've been assigned to johnstone.

Parking permits are very overpriced. Math department is a joke my calculus teacher specifically, did not cover the material very well and his examples were insufficient towards doing homework. Bought the math textbook for $200.00 didn’t even use it this semester, went to the schools buyback and they offered me $10.50 for it. Complete rip off. Showers here are bad suffered some burns because the cold water doesn’t work in half of them. It’s a pretty campus but the people running it care more about money than the students needs. You should get what you pay for I believe and you certainly do not here at MSU. I’ve experienced community colleges better than this.

We drove three hours from Missoula to get there and because we were going home the next morning the head of the department made sure that we had all our questions answered. Everyone was real nice. It snowed which was real pretty. The university itself is a very gorgeous place. Not sure if my kids going to go there, but they made a really good impression on us.
