I underwent a colonoscopy procedure in mid-August 2023, conducted by Dr. Hiwot Desta at Loudoun Endoscopy Group. Before the procedure, during my consultation appointment, we engaged in a comprehensive discussion concerning my gastrointestinal health and the colonoscopy process. Dr. Desta inquired about the reason for my need for a colonoscopy, as well as my recent and past medical history. She also efficiently addressed all my inquiries and apprehensions and ensured that her staff confirmed the coverage of the procedure by my insurance.

Following the colonoscopy, Dr. Desta personally visited me in the recovery room, providing me with printed images and a detailed explanation of her findings and the subsequent steps to be taken. At my request, she also forwarded the results to my referring physicians. Throughout this entire experience, I found Dr. Desta to be extremely professional, attentive, and genuinely compassionate toward her patients. My overall experience was exceptional, and I have full confidence in seeking her expertise for any future gastroenterology care needs.

Dr. Desta is a freaking incredible doctor. I had gone to several gastroentorologists before her to figure out why I had ongoing diarrhea issues for 3 years. I kept being told it was IBS-D even though the meds I was being given to treat this would help at first then stop helping. It was like I was growong tolerant of them. Eventually I ran out of medications to help me and was at my wit's end thinking I would just have to live with this for the rest of my life. Then when I came to Dr.Desta, she patiently listened to all my concerns and suggested having my gallbladder tested. A few tests later and voila, it turned out I had a diseased gallbladder. I underwent surgery to have it removed and my quality of life has increased. She also said that if surgery didn't help my issue, to come back to her because the cause would be very different. Just made me feel like I was in good hands. I am eternally grateful to her.

I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants a compassionate dr who will work to ensure you are overall health is addressed, be it your diet, stress mgt, and everything else that relates to your digestive health. Dr. Desta is amazing! She is the most compassionate and genuine doctor. She (and her staff- Colleen is fantastic too!) was the first GI to take my symptoms seriously and schedule me for a colonoscopy the next day, after almost 9 years of symptoms. I had just turned 27 and she discovered stage 4 colon cancer. She saved my life. She also continues to monitor me and every time I go into the clinic everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming. I HIGHLY recommend this incredible doctor.

I did not have a great experience with Dr Desta. I found her to be very difficult to communicate with. I didn't feel she listened to me So much to the point where I stayed in the practice but I went to another doctor I had a much better experience

Can’t sing enough praises for Dr Desta and her team. She saved my life. Not only is she an amazing doctor, she and her whole team are extremely kind and caring. Always recommend any friends with GI issues to go see her and Colleen, her PA. Honestly though, from anesthesiologist to nurses to front desk, I always know I am going to have a great interaction.

Dr. Desta performed a colonoscopy on me back in 2008 when I just turned age 40. She and her team did a great job. But she was surprised that she found no abnormalities. But with my family history of digestive cancers it was better to get a healthy baseline before any issues cropped up. By the way Doc, the mob has been out of Youngstown Ohio since the late 70's. I wonder if she remembers asking me that in our pre operation meeting. If I am living in VA again, and I need this procedure again, I will look her up.
