I have use Mike's Bikes for 3 semesters now in Business Strategies at a community college in Ottawa and it has been a great experience. This is now my favorite course. The students are totally engaged and the gaming element brings out the competitiveness in the students. Attendance is outstanding. It also allows students with critical thinking skills and/or street smarts to excel. A number of students who have struggled in their theoretical accounting courses, but who have street smarts, have finally found a course that caters to them. The technical support from Smartsims is second to none. I would recommend Mike's Bikes for any capstone course in Business.

This past fall (2018) I had the opportunity to participate in a Business simulation called MikesBikes in my Managing a Growing Enterprise course at Boston University. This course quickly became one of my favorites that I have taken while an undergrad at BU, and MikesBikes played a heavy role in this. The simulation allowed for my peers and I to engage in strategic decision making as we competed in the virtual market. We were able to utilize concepts such as competitive positioning, trade-offs, and economic value added as we sought to inflate our Shareholder Value. My peers and I were very surprised to see how easy MikesBikes was to use, while also incorporating so many functional areas of running a growing enterprise. I am very interested in utilizing this simulation, and others like it, in the future as I seek further academic enrichment.

During my Applied Management course we were introduced to MikesBikes Advanced business simulation. As a team, we did some good decisions and a couple bad ones. But in the end it was a learning curve and I feel much of the critical aspects were covered in the simulation. From personal experience I can say it is worth way more than an internship (P.s. I have done internship as well).

In just 3 months of 'going through' this simulation, it provided me more hands on knowledge than my 1 year of internship. Recommended for business students, entrepreneurs and people already in business, who want to gain higher positions or looking to start their own venture.

I used Mike's Bikes as a teaching tool in my freshman classes. Typically, I'd run an individual simulation for two weeks and a minimum of 8 rollovers before forming teams (4-5 students) and another 8 weeks of rollovers. As I learned more about simulation, I became much more effective in teaching it but the key was to read the various reports and charts and not shot gun your answers.
The teams that did well either visited me or my TA's and listened to each team member's inputs. One of the challenges is the language and jargon which can be confusing for freshmen but we'd spend time in class defining any terms or concepts that students found confusing.

All in all, the simulation was well received and a precursor to simulation programs they'll see in upper division classes.

For instructors of higher education courses who prescribe to experiential learning through "learning by doing," the Smartsims suite of simulations provide a wide range of opportunities to bring coursework theory to life as practical applications of strategic planning, decision making, and communications around market data analysis. Even in my English as a Foreign Language context my learners are able to manage the easy-to-navigate interface and use the support materials and accompanying market research reports to discuss and guide their decisions with the benefit of enjoying the 'competition' with classmates.

What an amazing platform - used to solidify our understanding of business level strategies and strategic management. As a game, our team was in last place on our third roll over. By the tenth and final roll over, we obtained the second highest Shareholder Value. It's fair to say, I've had a lot of experience of MikesBikes--I've been using this simulation (and many others) for 20 years! And I keep coming back to MikesBikes (and it keeps on getting better).

As a platform to enable learning about a wide range of business topics (be it strategy, team work, operations, whatever), it is hard to be the sophistication, easy of use, robustness, and support that one gets through SmartSims' MikesBikes simulation.

This Simulator is amazing! I used it in my intro to business 101 course and am dazzled at how much effort was put into creating a fun interactive experience. The tutorial videos are very helpful for starting out and getting familiar with the system. Once, the competition rounds start it feels amazing to track your performance against others. I would recommend this resource to anyone whether for fun or gaining experience with understanding "key reports". TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!
